The Argentina national team is in the semifinals of the Copa America, and ahead of the competition, they were the favorites to win the trophy. They are a game away from reaching another major tournament final after winning the Copa America 2021 and the 2022 World Cup. While many Argentine fans believe there is no pressure after the recent success, a petition was made to let the national team goalkeeper, Emiliano 'El Dibu' Martinez, score a goal in the Copa America. With the semifinals being the next game, it will be almost impossible to allow that to happen, and Lionel Scaloni, the manager of the Argentina national team, has said that it will not happen. Scaloni said, "The truth is that it doesn't even make me laugh... He's a goalkeeper; let him save and save well. Let him be a goalkeeper and keep saving as he is... That's it." It looks like Martinez well not get to score for Argentina any time soon.
Scaloni also took the time to reveal that Lionel Messi was ready for the match against Canada and will likely start in another semifinal for the Copa America. Scaloni said, "Messi is fine, he ended the game without any discomfort. He will start tomorrow. Yes, [Messi and Di Maria starting together] that is a possibility." Argentina will be guaranteed two matches left in the Copa America because even if they lose against Canada, they could play in the 3rd place match against the loser of the Uruguay vs Colombia match.
Scaloni made another statement towards the comments suggesting that the EUROS are more difficult than the Copa America. The Argentine manager said, "I would like for a European nation to be invited to a Copa América sometime so they can see what it's like to play here, and also the other way around with the EUROS."
Scaloni revealed that he is rooting for Spain in the EUROS because of his former manager, Luis de la Fuente, who is the manager of the Spanish national team. Scaloni said, "I’m very happy with what my mister, Luis de la Fuente, is doing. I hope it goes well for him. I believe that the vast majority of Argentines are rooting for Spain.”
