During the last few transfer windows, Chelsea are one of the clubs that have spent the most money to buy players. New owner Todd Boehly arrived with the intention of renewing the squad and signing talented youngsters who in the medium term will become top level stars. That's why they paid a fortune for Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez in January 2023, and invested more than $500 million this summer to add Christopher Nkunku, Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer, among others.
However, things have not gone well on the field. The team's performances have been inconsistent, with some excellent games and many others disappointing. Coach Mauricio Pochettino, in addition, has struggled to assemble the team week to week due to the large number of players who have suffered injuries. All these factors have meant that the Blues are currently in 10th place in the league table, a long way behind leaders Liverpool.
For that reason the owner is considering investing even more money in the future to raise the level of the team. And one of the targets seems to be Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker was one of the main stars of last season, leading Napoli to the Serie A title with 31 goals. But in the current tournament his performances decreased and he had conflicts with the club's chiefs, so his departure is likely.
This Friday Victor celebrated his 25th birthday and received many greetings on social media. But one caught everyone's attention: a Chelsea fan posted on X a picture of Osimhen as a child with the Blues shirt and the message: "Happy birthday Victor Osimhen, pls come and rescue Chelsea soon". And, unexpectedly, the striker replied with three emojis: two hearts and two praying hands.
Victor Osimhen is one of the most coveted strikers by top clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia. He recently agreed with Napoli to renew his contract until June 30, 2026, with an exit clause of more than $140 million.
