According to Caughtoffside, Liverpool is close to making an offer for right-back Benjamin Pavard, who has been a target of interest from Barcelona in recent months. The English club is reportedly willing to pay the 30 million EUR that Bayern Munich demands for the French player.
Bayern Munich is aware of Pavard's intentions to try his luck in another league and considers his transfer as the most sensible option this summer, avoiding letting him leave for free in 2024. Since joining Bayern in 2019, Pavard has alternated the starting position on the right side with Joshua Kimmich, who has also been linked to Barcelona.
For Jurgen Klopp, signing defenders is a priority for Liverpool in the summer transfer market. The team conceded 47 goals in the Premier League last season and finished in fifth place, which means they will be playing in the Europa League in the upcoming season. Klopp plans to use Pavard as a center-back alongside Virgil van Dijk, bolstering the team's defense.
Pavard has expressed his interest in playing as a center-back, which has fueled his desire to leave Bayern. Liverpool has already completed the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, and it is expected that they will make at least two or three more additions in the summer, including a defender and a forward.
At Barcelona, signing a right-back is not a priority at the moment. Coach Xavi Hernández believes that the position is well covered with players like Ronald Araújo, Jules Koundé, and Sergi Roberto. The priority for Barcelona at this time is a defensive midfielder.
