Liverpool, the Premier League champions of 2019, are on the brink of parting ways with their reliable goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, after nine years of dedicated service to the club. Reports from Scotland indicate a strong interest from a Scottish team eager to secure his talents. Although Liverpool appears hesitant to release the Irishman, they may entertain the idea if a fair transfer fee is proposed should he choose to depart.

Kelleher, having featured in 11 matches for the Reds this season, is being considered as a potential successor to the aging Joe Hart at Celtic Park, whose contract concludes at the end of the current season. While Celtic remains a front-runner, Kelleher may face competition from other Premier League clubs. Brentford, Brighton, and Wolves have all expressed interest in the goalkeeper, with scouting efforts initiated last summer.

Despite Liverpool's No. 1, Alisson Becker, expressing a desire to play for another decade and maintaining peak performance, Kelleher, at 25, may see the upcoming summer as an opportune time to seek a move elsewhere for a more prominent role as a first-choice goalkeeper.

Jurgen Klopp dismissed transfer speculations about Kelleher last summer, underscoring Liverpool's reluctance to lose the player. However, this stance could shift if Kelleher expresses a desire to be a No. 1 goalkeeper elsewhere. Liverpool is unlikely to approve the sale of Kelleher without securing a suitable replacement first.

Who are in Liverpool’s Radar?

While the club has reportedly scouted Sunderland's Anthony Patterson, doubts persist regarding the 23-year-old's readiness for the demanding level of the Premier League leaders. As Liverpool navigates the current season, challenging teams like Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League crown and competing in the Europa League and FA Cup, Kelleher's potential departure raises the imperative of securing a capable goalkeeper to seamlessly step into Alisson's boots in case of injuries or suspensions. The club's pursuit of multiple trophies further underscores the significance of maintaining a strong and reliable squad.
