Bad news for Los Merengues.

Last weekend the matches of the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, the second most important tournament in Spain after La Liga, were played. There were no big surprises there, as most of the country's powerful teams defeated their respective rivals and advanced to the next round of the tournament. Atlético Madrid beat Lugo 3-1, Real Madrid did the same against Arandina and Barcelona defeated Barbastro 3-2.

And this Monday, the draw for the round of 16 was made. The 16 teams still left in the competition will face each other in knock-out stages until only two finalists remain, who will compete for the title on April 6 at the Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville.

Some clubs were luckier than others in the draw. Barcelona were the most fortunate, as they will face Unionistas de Salamanca, a team from Spain's third division who surprised everyone by eliminating Villarreal in the previous round. But the opposite happened with Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti's team will not only not face a weak opponent, but they will have a derby.

Atlético Madrid will be Los Merengues' rivals in the round of 16, in what will be the most interesting match of this phase of the Copa del Rey. The curious thing is that both teams will face each other three times in less than a month in three different tournaments: this Wednesday they will play the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, next week they will play the Copa del Rey game and on February 4 they will face each other in La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

What are the other matches?

In addition to Barcelona vs Unionistas and Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid, the other Copa del Rey round of 16 matches will be Athletic Bilbao vs Alaves, Getafe vs Sevilla, Girona vs Rayo Vallecano, Osasuna vs Real Sociedad, Tenerife vs Mallorca and Valencia vs Celta.
