Leo was happy.

Lionel Messi had a difficult start to 2024. The preseason with Inter Miami was not as good as expected, as the level of the team and the results obtained during the friendly matches were disappointing (they barely won one match out of the six they played). In addition, he suffered a muscle discomfort that prevented him from playing in Hong Kong, which caused the anger of the fans of that country and the organizers of the event.

And that also affected the Argentine National Team, since the authorities of the city of Hangzhou decided to suspend the friendly match that was to be played in the international break in March between the world champions and Nigeria, considering that the conditions were not right to receive Messi after the controversy he had starred in Hong Kong. That put Argentina's planned tour of Asia in doubt, with rumors of a possible move to the United States.

With this scenario, Leo needed some good news and he received it this Sunday from South America. In Venezuela they were playing in the Pre-Olympic soccer tournament that awarded two places to the best CONMEBOL teams for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. And there Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 in the decisive match and secured their presence in the competition, along with Paraguay.

Lionel celebrated this with a story on his official Instagram account, in which he shared the Argentina National Team's post and commented: "Vamoooosss" ("Let's goooo", in Spanish) along with several emojis of applause. This excited the fans, who dream of seeing the forward once again representing Argentina in an Olympic Games, after winning the gold medal in Beijing 2008.

What did the coach say?

Javier Mascherano, Barcelona legend and current coach of the Argentina U-23 National Team that will compete in Paris 2024, spoke about the possibility of calling Lionel Messi to that competition, which will start on July 24: "Everyone already knows my relationship with Leo, the friendship I have. A player like him has the doors open for him to join us, then it will depend on him and his commitments, obviously".
