Lionel Messi's arrival at Inter Miami was probably the most important news in world soccer during 2023. He is currently the best player in the world, having won the two most prestigious individual trophies (the Ballon d'Or and The Best), in addition to having won the Qatar 2022 World Cup with Argentina.
So when The Herons announced his hiring in July, fans on every continent turned their attention to Major League Soccer for the first time. From that moment on, the audience levels for each game of David Beckham's side multiplied, as did the sale of tickets and jerseys with the number 10 and Messi's name on them.
As expected, Leo made the difference and led the team to its first-ever Leagues Cup title and the US Open Cup final. But his influence is not only seen on the field, but also off it. As one of the most famous people in the world, people go out of their way to see him, be near him and get a photo or autograph.
After a few weeks living in an apartment near Golden Beach, the forward moved with his family to a luxurious $10 million mansion in Fort Lauderdale. There they are much more comfortable, as there is plenty of space and his sons Thiago, Mateo and Ciro can enjoy the outdoors.
What nobody expected was that Lionel Messi's arrival in Miami would also benefit his new neighbors. One of them is Patrick Bet-David, an entrepreneur and podcaster who has over one billion views on YouTube. He revealed how things have changed since Leo moved into his neighborhood: "So far right now, according to today's climate, I've already made $25 million of equity on the house I own. Now that Messi is there everybody is coming on their boats to look at the houses. We're doing okay."
