Another Argentinian partner for Messi: this is the midfielder Inter Miami want

The Herons need new players to face the Major League Soccer season.

Messi will be happy.

This week Inter Miami will play their last friendly match of the preseason. It will be at DRV PNK Stadium against Newell's Old Boys, the Argentine club that Lionel Messi is a fan of and where he played before moving to Barcelona at the age of 13. Then there will be just six days until the start of the 2024 Major League Soccer season, which will be against Real Salt Lake, also in Fort Lauderdale.

Despite the short time remaining until the start of the tournament, the club's chiefs are still working to fulfill the wishes of coach Gerardo Martino and sign the necessary players to raise the team's level. This is necessary especially considering the physical problems suffered by several of the squad's stars during the preseason games.

The first to suffer an injury was Facundo Farias, who suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in the friendly against the El Salvador national team and underwent surgery, which will keep him out of action for at least six months. He was followed by Benjamin Cremaschi, who was sidelined for two months due to an inguinal hernia. And last week Sergio Busquets suffered a hard blow to his ankle during the match vs Vissel Kobe that puts him in doubt for the start of the season.

With this scenario, one of the manager's priorities is the arrival of a midfielder who can replace (or complement) Busquets. And the chosen one is an Argentine player: Federico Redondo. The 21-year-old midfielder, son of Real Madrid legend Fernando Redondo, shines at Argentinos Juniors and is part of the Argentina U-23 national team that will compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. If he arrives, he will be Messi's fifth Argentine teammate, along with Farías, Franco Negri, Tomás Avilés and Nicolás Freire.

How much is he worth?

According to the newspaper AS, the transfer of Federico Redondo would be worth more than $8 million. But there are still details to be agreed between the clubs, since Argentinos Juniors intend to receive 20% of a possible future sale of the player by Inter Miami, as well as a bonus for the player's performance in the MLS. If an agreement is reached, The Herons will get a young star who was also on the radar of powerful European clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Ajax.
