On the last day of the transfer window in Europe, Joao Felix managed to realize the dream he had since he was a child: to play for Barcelona. He had said so in an interview with journalist Fabrizio Romano, something that was not well received at Atlético Madrid. There he had a bad relationship with coach Diego Simeone and had not played even one minute in the first games of the season.
That is why he was desperate to go to Catalunya and waited until the last minute to do so, even putting Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia on hold, who were willing to pay a fortune for him. Initially Los Blaugranas did not seem interested in signing him, but the departure of Ousmane Dembélé to Paris Saint-Germain changed the plans and Xavi Hernández finally accepted with enthusiasm the arrival of the Portuguese forward. The loan deals for Abde and Ansu Fati also helped Felix's chances of joining.
However, the negotiations were not easy, as Barcelona have been facing serious financial problems for years that prevent them from spending a lot of money on signing players. That is why they agreed with Atlético Madrid on a one-season loan without a buyout clause.
But that was not enough. From the beginning of the talks, the player was told that the only way the signing could happen was if he accepted a significant reduction in his salary. And he did not hesitate to say yes. At Atlético Madrid he has earned more than $15 million a year, but at Barcelona his salary will be only $430,000 for the whole season.
Joao Felix's salary at Barcelona will be one of the lowest in the squad. Robert Lewandowski, for example, makes $13 million a year. And the difference is even bigger compared to stars from other teams: Vinicius Junior has a salary of $20 million at Real Madrid and Erling Haaland earns $23 million at Manchester City.
