What did Onana say after the gorilla scandal with Manchester United teammate?

Last Tuesday Manchester United got a valuable victory against Copenhagen 1-0 at Old Trafford that allowed them to get closer to the Champions League round of 16 qualification places. Erik Ten Hag's team were winning thanks to Harry Maguire's goal, but in the last minute the visitors had the chance to score the equaliser on a penalty kick.

André Onana became a hero saving Jordan Larsson's shot with a great reaction and that earned him the recognition, admiration and thanks not only from the fans, but also from his own teammates. As soon as they heard the referee's final whistle, they all ran towards the Cameroonian goalkeeper to embrace him.

One of those who showed their joy was Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine winger shared a picture on his X account showing some Manchester United players celebrating with Onana, and added two gorilla emojis. He then edited the post and finally deleted it, but it was too late.

The FA was already aware of this and, according to reports, is analyzing what to do with Garnacho. While they do not believe there was a racist message in the player's post, they do understand that it was inappropriate and so they may decide to suspend him. Something similar happened with Edinson Cavani at Manchester United and Bernardo Silva at Manchester City recently, so The Red Devils are concerned.

In the middle of this scandal, André Onana posted a message on his official Instagram account talking about this situation and took a firm position in favor of his teammate: "People cannot choose what I should be offended by. I know exactly what Alejandro Garnacho meant: power and strength. This matter should go no further." And then the Argentine winger shared that post on his own account.
