(VIDEO) Liverpool had a chance to beat Arsenal, but Alexander-Arnold did this

The English right-back could have been the hero at Anfield Road, but he missed.

All England fans (and many others around the world) were watching what was going to happen at Anfield Road on Saturday. They knew that the Premier League leaders would be there. Arsenal came into this match on top of the league, but Liverpool had the chance to beat them and overtake them in the standings. So, in any case, one of the two teams was going to celebrate.

And many other teams were also interested in this result. Aston Villa, after Friday's draw against Sheffield United at Villa Park, had caught up with the Gunners, but had no mathematical chance of finishing Round 18 of the Premier League as leaders. And Manchester City and Tottenham were also very close.

Things started well for the visitors, who in the first few minutes created several chances to score. Gabriel Jesus came close with a header, but in the end it was Gabriel Magalhaes who netted the opener after a floated cross from Martin Odegaard.

However, that joy was short-lived for The Gunners, as on 28 minutes Trent Alexander-Arnold gave an excellent long pass to Mohamed Salah, who controlled the ball, dribbled past a rival defender, entered the box and shot with great force and precision with his left foot, making it impossible for goalkeeper David Raya to react. And the Reds came close to taking all three points in the second half when Alexander-Arnold was one-on-one with the keeper, but incredibly his shot came back off the crossbar.

What's next in the Premier League?

After the 1-1 draw against Liverpool, Arsenal remain the sole leaders of the standings with 40 points, one more than Liverpool and Aston Villa. Their next match will be on Thursday, December 28 at Emirates Stadium against West Ham United. The Reds will play two days earlier against Burnley.
