Once again Barcelona showed a disappointing performance and did not get the result they were hoping for. This Saturday they visited Rayo Vallecano at the Vallecas Stadium, aiming to win in order to get closer to the top places in the La Liga standings. The leaders are Girona with 34 points, while Real Madrid are second with 32. Barcelona, with 30, could overtake Los Merengues.

But none of that happened. Xavi Hernandez's team had no imagination to create dangerous situations in the opponent's box and showed big problems every time they had the ball. And that was not all. They also had defensive difficulties and the hosts took advantage of them. In the 39th minute, Unai Lopez took a rebound outside the box and shot with great force, making it impossible for goalkeeper Iñaki Peña to save it.

Losing 1-0 and showing a poor performance, during the second half Xavi Hernandez tried to improve the team with some changes. He included Fermin Lopez, Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Felix and Raphinha. However, the solution came thanks to a player who was already on the field: Alex Balde.

After 37 minutes, the Spanish left-back sent a floated cross with the intention of finding Robert Lewandowski inside the box. The striker threw himself into the air to hit the ball with a header and the play ended in a goal for Barcelona. The TV cameras stayed with Lewandowski, who celebrated with his teammates. But then the truth came out: it was not the Polish player who scored the goal, but Florian Lejeune. The Rayo Vallecano defender, trying to prevent his opponent from arriving, pushed the ball and scored an own goal.

They may have problems

With the draw, Barcelona have 31 points in the standings. Atlético Madrid can catch them, even with a game in hand, if they beat Mallorca this Saturday. And that's not the worst of it. If leaders Girona beat Athletic Bilbao on Monday, they will increase their lead over Los Blaugranas to 6 points.
