(VIDEO) Goal and injury: this awful kick took Zaire-Emery off the field vs Gibraltar

The France national team has already qualified for Euro 2024, which will be played next summer in Germany. They did it during the October international break, as they won their first 6 matches and secured the first place in the group B standings. That is why this November international break is atypical for them: they do not need to achieve results, but to continue improving the team's collective performance.

With that goal in mind, coach Didier Deschamps decided to put together a starting lineup with most of the squad's stars for this Saturday's match against Gibraltar in Nice. Among them, he included Warren Zaire-Emery. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder was called up to the French national team for the first time this international break and became the youngest player to do so since World War II.

Things got off to a great start for the hosts, as after 6 minutes they were leading 2-0: Ethan Santos scored an own-goal in the first dangerous situation of the match, after a drilled cross by Jonathan Clauss; while Marcus Thuram netted the second one later on.

But the most important play came later, in the 16th minute, when Zaire-Emery scored the third goal and his first for France. He shot with his right foot into the box and beat the resistance of goalkeeper Dayle Coleing. But at that moment, defender Santos gave him a hard kick that caused him to sprain his right ankle. After receiving medical attention, Warren had to be replaced, while the Gibraltar player was sent off.

France proved during the first half to be far superior to Gibraltar. After Warren Zaire-Emery's goal, four more came. Kylian Mbappé, Jonathan Clauss, Kingsley Coman and Youssouf Fofana scored them, and Didier Deschamps' team went into the break leading 7-0.
