The Portuguese striker scored a goal in Al-Nassr's 5-2 win over Al-Shabab.

Al-Nassr needed a win on Monday against Al-Shabab to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Saudi Arabian King's Cup. They had reached the quarterfinals after beating Ohud Medina 5-1 in the round of 32 and Al-Ettifaq 1-0 in the round of 16. This tournament is the closest target they have, as they are just a few games away from the title.

That's why coach Luis Castro didn't hold anything back and put on the field most of the squad's stars, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Otavio, Seko Fofana, Aymeric Laporte and Marcelo Brozovic. And that was enough to overcome their rivals, who do not have so many players of that quality, with the exception of Yannick Carrasco and Ever Banega.

However things had started better for Al-Shabab, who with the game 0-0 had a penalty. But Carrasco slipped before reaching the ball and his shot was defective. The hosts took advantage and went into the break 3-1 up thanks to goals from Seko Fofana, Sadio Mane and Abdulrahman Ghareeb. Carlos Carvalho had scored the equaliser.

In the second half Al-Nassr continued to be superior and increased the lead through Cristiano Ronaldo, who received an assist inside the box and shot with his right foot, making the goalkeeper's reaction impossible. In the last minutes Hattan Bahebri scored for Al-Shabab and Mohammed Maran netted the 5-2. With this victory, Luis Castro's team secured their place in the King's Cup semifinals, where they will face the winner of Al-Faisaly vs Al-Ittihad.

Another record for Cristiano

With his goal, Ronaldo reached the impressive number of 50 goals in 2023. He is, along with Erling Haaland the top scorer of the year, surpassing stars like Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane. Lionel Messi is much further back in this ranking, as this year he only netted 28 goals with Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Miami and the Argentina National Team.
