The Red Devils got a big 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Manchester United and Chelsea were two of the clubs that dominated the Premier League over the past decade. Not only that, but they were also major players in Europe, winning the Champions League title three times between them in the last 15 years. However, that era is now behind them. Now The Red Devils and The Blues are struggling to return to dominance in England.

This season neither of them had a good start and that is why they are far away from the top places in the standings. Erik Ten Hag's team started this week in seventh place with 24 points, in the Conference League qualification zone but far behind leaders Arsenal. And Mauricio Pochettino's team has fared even worse, as they are further down the table.

During the first half The Red Devils were the ones who showed the better performance. They controlled the ball and the field, which also allowed them to create several chances to score. But they lacked precision. In fact, Bruno Fernandes had a penalty after 8 minutes, but goalkeeper Robert Sanchez guessed his intention and saved it. However, 10 minutes later Scott McTominay captured a rebound inside the box and netted the opener.

The joy was short-lived for Manchester United, as before the break the Blues found the equaliser. Cole Palmer received the ball near the box, dribbled past several opposing defenders and, when he found enough space, shot smoothly with his left foot, making it impossible for goalkeeper Andre Onana to react.

It was the Scot again

In the second half, the hosts tried again to take the lead and got it in the 24th minute when Alejandro Garnacho sent a cross to the box and again McTominay connected with the ball, this time with a header. The Scottish midfielder was the great hero of the team, despite the fact that during the transfer window he was close to leaving because coach Erik Ten Hag did not consider him a priority. He finally stayed and is now one of the team's biggest stars.
