Paris Saint-Germain have changed virtually their entire squad this summer. Some of the decisions were made by the new coach, Luis Enrique, with the aim of having a team similar to his liking. But others are decisions by the chiefs, who felt that after the Champions League failures of the last few seasons, it was necessary to get rid of several important players.
That is why stars such as Leandro Paredes, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. left, and this week it was agreed that Marco Verratti would leave for Al-Arabi of Qatar, a team owned by the Emir of Qatar's cousin and current owner of PSG. However, there was another player who was supposed to follow the same path and changed his mind at the last minute.
It is Julian Draxler. The German midfielder arrived at PSG in 2017 from Wolfsburg in exchange for $45 million. In his first seasons in France he had a lot of participation, but gradually lost his place in the team until he was loaned to Benfica in 2022. This summer he returned to the Parisian side and was excluded from the squad and sent to train alongside players who are not taken into account by Luis Enrique.
After the European transfer window closed, everything seemed to indicate that Draxler's future would be in the Pro League. Even Al-Ahli had reached an agreement with PSG, but finally the midfielder decided to reject the offer. According to reports, he had doubts about going to Saudi Arabia and preferred to stay in Paris despite not being a priority for Luis Enrique.
At Paris Saint-Germain there seems to be no place for Julian Draxler. The coach has other alternatives in his position, such as Manuel Ugarte, Warren Zaire-Emery, Kang-In Lee, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler. In fact, the 2014 World Cup winner was not even included in the list for the Champions League.
