Manchester United need a change. They have been relegated for years now compared to other clubs in England, such as Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, and have failed to win major titles for a decade. They last won the Premier League in 2013, when the coach was still Sir Alex Ferguson, while their last Champions League was in 2008.
Since then it has been more often failures than successes, and the current season is no exception. Under Erik Ten Hag, things have not gone as expected. In the Premier League they are sixth in the standings, far from the leaders. In the Carabao Cup they were eliminated by Newcastle in the round of 16 and in the Champions League they can hardly advance to the next round, as they are last in Group A and there are only two games left.
With this scenario, the possible purchase of 25% of the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe seems a hopeful solution. The chairman and CEO of INEOS Group is willing to pay $1.3 billion to become one of the club's owners and intends to take over soccer-related decisions.
In that case, the current squad could undergo numerous changes. According to The Sun, there are 15 players who could leave the club at the end of this season. Two of them are on loan and their future will need to be negotiated: Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilón. Eight others are under contract until June 30, 2024, so their continuity will depend on them agreeing to renew: Victor Lindelof, Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Hannibal Mejbri, Johnny Evans and Tom Heaton.
Jadon Sancho is another player who is likely to leave Manchester United in the near future, as since his quarrel with boss Ten Hag he has not played official matches again and does not even train with the first team. In addition, Casemiro and Raphael Varane could leave, as they have offers from other clubs. And the same could happen with Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay.
