The club that benefits from Bellingham's transfer to Real Madrid and is not Dortmund

Real Madrid is on the verge of announcing the signing of Jude Bellingham, one of the most coveted players. The club has already reached an agreement with the player, and only the contract signing remains, which is expected to be concluded at 131 million EUR , plus an additional 31 million EUR in variables. This figure is far from the initial 150 EUR million demanded by the German club.

However, out of the 131 million EUT fixed fee that Madrid intends to pay to Borussia Dortmund for Bellingham, not all of it will go directly to the German club. The English midfielder joined the Bundesliga from Birmingham City in the summer of 2020 for 29 million EUR. As part of that agreement, Dortmund committed to allocating 5% of any future sale of Bellingham to Birmingham City.

Birmingham City is excited about the potential sale of Bellingham, as the money they would receive from the transfer would not be their only gain. In addition to the 131 million EUR , Madrid would have to pay the English club the Solidarity Mechanism.

This mechanism is a 5% contribution, excluding training compensation, which goes to the clubs that trained the player from ages 12 to 23. A 0.25% is received per year at the training club between ages 12 and 15, and a 0.5% per year between ages 16 and 23.
