Lionel Messi is currently in Bolivia to play in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers fixtures. Scaloni's team secured a victory over Ecuador in the first match in Buenos Aires and aims to continue earning points.

With a last-minute free-kick goal scored by Messi, the reigning world champions emerged victorious against a determined Ecuadorian team. Despite initial doubts, Argentina's manager confirmed that the Inter Miami player would travel to the South American country, though it remained uncertain if he would play.

Nonetheless, thousands of fans gathered in anticipation of the arrival of the Argentine superstar in the South American nation. This particular match poses a significant challenge for Argentina, and here's why.

Argentina's Challenge in Bolivia

According to official statistics, La Paz sits at an elevation of 3,650 meters (11,975 ft) above sea level, making it the highest capital city in the world. As a result, some players, like Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister, have posted photos on social media showing them using oxygen canisters due to the lower oxygen levels players may experience when not accustomed to such altitudes.
