This weekend something historic happened in Italy. Francesco Camarda became the youngest player to make his Serie A debut, at just 15 years, 8 months and 16 days, when he came on for Luka Jovic 38 minutes into the second half in the match between AC Milan and Fiorentina at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium.
The young Italian striker is considered by some to be the 'new Erling Haaland'. Despite his young age, his talent surprises not only the fans, but also the coaches who have managed him. That's why coach Stefano Pioli gave him the opportunity to play his first game in the Italian league, confident that he can help the team in the near future.
But, unfortunately, he won't be able to do the same in the Champions League. A UEFA rule states that players under 16 and not yet under professional contract with their clubs cannot play matches in international tournaments. This means that Camarda will have to wait until March, when he will turn 16, before he can make his debut outside Italy.
This is bad news for the Rossoneri, as they need all the help they can get to get good results in their two remaining Champions League matches. For now they are in third place in the Group E standings with 5 points, two less than leaders Borussia Dortmund, one less than Paris Saint-Germain and one more than Newcastle. This Tuesday they will face the German side, while on Wednesday, December 13 they will fly to England.
Francesco Camarda has impressive statistics with AC Milan's youth teams. In the last four years, he netted more than 500 goals with the side. And he also had the opportunity to play with the U-17 National Team, where he scored 4 goals in 6 games. No wonder why coach Stefano Pioli decided to give him a chance with the first team.
