Sergio Ramos has been a free agent since his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ran out on June 30. Since then he has been analyzing the offers that have come his way, but has yet to make a decision. At 37, he knows that the best of his professional career is behind him, but he is convinced that he still has the energy to compete in the world's biggest tournaments.
That is why he has not yet accepted any of the bids he has received, as they all come from clubs that are not among the top clubs in Europe. The Turkish league, Saudi Arabia's Pro League and Major League Soccer in the United States may be attractive destinations for other players, but apparently not for him.
His desire is to return to Sevilla to play his final years in La Liga. He started his career on the Spanish side in 2003 and played 50 games before being transferred to Real Madrid. However, Los Blanquirrojos have shown no interest in signing him.
In fact, weeks ago Victor Orta, sporting director of Sevilla, spoke about Ramos in an interview with the newspaper Marca: "We have six central defenders. As of today there is no possibility that Sergio Ramos will play for Sevilla. We have made a template template with some lines to follow. We have been able to get a good option in midfield to get ahead of another rival. We haven't talked to any more central defenders.
Perhaps Orta's opinion has changed after the first game of La Liga 2023/24. There Sevilla lost 2-1 against Valencia and the team's defenders had very poor performances. Loic Bade was sent off 35 minutes into the second half, while Argentine center-back Federico Gattoni, one of this summer's signings, made an incredible mistake that allowed the opponents' second goal. Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos is still waiting for a call-up, and has time until September 1.
