After several decades, they aim to win in Istanbul

Manchester City will face a match with historical significance as they visit Istanbul to compete in the Champions League final. While this will be the first time the Citizens play a final in the Turkish capital, it is not their first time stepping on Ottoman soil in pursuit of the coveted European title.

The only match played by Manchester City in Istanbul for the Champions League dates back to October 2, 1968. More than five decades have passed since that encounter, but those who witnessed that match still remember the adverse result suffered by the Sky Blues, who were defeated 2-1 against Fenerbahce.

The match started auspiciously for the Citizens, with a goal from Tony Coleman in the 11th minute of the first half. However, as time went on, Fenerbahce managed to equalize the score with a goal from Abdullah Cevrim. In the second half, Ogün Altiparmak scored the winning goal for the Turkish team.

Despite that past result, the players and coaching staff of Manchester City are focused on the present and the opportunity to make history. They know that every match is a new story and that this final will be completely different. The goal is to lift the trophy and bring it back to England, leaving behind the memories of that match from over half a century ago.
