Man Utd's curse: $55 million star got injured and was dropped by his national team

The 2023/24 season has been hell for Manchester United so far. The team's performances have been far from expectations and that has translated into results: in the Premier League they had the worst start in the last 37 years and are far behind the leaders, in the Champions League they have little chance of qualifying for the round of 16 and in the Carabao Cup they were eliminated by Newcastle.

Although many point the finger at the players for their poor performances and at Erik Ten Hag for his erroneous decisions, the Dutch coach has explained on more than one occasion that a large part of the problems the Red Devils have had on the pitch this season are due to one cause: injuries.

Important players in the squad such as Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw have been sidelined for most of the semester due to serious physical problems, while others have had less serious injuries that have prevented them from playing at different times during the season, such as Casemiro, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Christian Eriksen, Sofyan Amrabat, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund.

And this week another player was added to that list: André Onana. The goalkeeper played with the Cameroon national team last Friday against Mauritius, but had to be replaced due to a groin injury. And now the Federation announced with a statement that he is no longer part of the delegation for the Libya match.

More problems for Ten Hag

André Onana joined Manchester United this summer for $55 million. While he did not have a good start, his performances improved in recent weeks. But now that he is injured the coach will have to look for alternatives. Plan B is Altay Bayindir, who also joined the club in the last transfer window from Fenerbahce and has yet to play a game in England. And the other option is Tom Heaton.
