In 2019 Atlético Madrid bought Joao Felix from Benfica for more than $130 million in the hope that he would become one of the great stars of world soccer. But, although in Spain he gave demonstrations of his talent, he never showed a good enough level to justify the fortune they paid for him. For this reason, after three seasons he was loaned to Chelsea, where he did not perform well either.
However, this summer he arrived on loan to Barcelona and in his first matches he is shining. Last weekend he scored a goal and provided an 'assist' to Robert Lewandowski without touching the ball in the 5-0 win against Real Betis. And again he stood out in the Champions League debut against Royal Antwerp, with two goals.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Joao Felix was asked about his arrival at Barcelona and said: "I gave up a significant amount of money from my salary. I needed a change, I needed to go somewhere where I could play my soccer and as I have always said I thought this would be the ideal place. Things are going well and I had to make that effort to get back to having joy playing."
However, he then surprised to talk about his experience at Atlético Madrid, where he did not show a good level and had a bad relationship with coach Diego Simeone: "Football is like that, whoever is bad has to change places. I have done it before for Chelsea and I have done it now for Barcelona because I was not good there, I did not adapt to the ideas of the club and the coach".
Joao Felix has a contract with Barcelona until the end of this season and then he will have to return to Atlético Madrid. On this, he explained: "Well, for me it depends on how the season ends. Then Barcelona are the ones who have to negotiate with Atlético and that depends on them, if they want to facilitate things or not. But that's business stuff, about values, which I don't get involved in".
