On the last day of the transfer window Barcelona agreed the arrival of Joao Felix. He had assured weeks before in an interview with journalist Fabrizio Romano that his dream since he was a child was to play for the Catalan side. This brought him problems at Atlético Madrid, where he already had a bad relationship with coach Diego Simeone. With this scenario, his arrival on loan to Barcelona seemed an ideal solution for all parties.
And the start of Joao's experience at Los Blaugranas is excellent: in his first 8 games there, between La Liga and Champions League, he has scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists. But, in addition to the statistics, his play has been very convincing, approaching the performances he had in previous seasons.
This is not only good news for Barcelona, who enjoy him on the field, but also for Atlético Madrid. They paid for the forward $130 million in 2019 and are still hoping to recoup at least a part of that investment. Therefore, the better performances he shows on the pitch, the more chances they will have to receive a lot of money for him.
However, Joao Felix's future remains unknown. According to the newspaper Marca, Atlético Madrid have not yet received any offer for him, neither from Barcelona nor from other clubs. While it is true that there is still a long way to go before the end of his loan in Catalunya, the Madrid side's chiefs are eager to resolve this issue.
Barcelona will try to keep Joao Felix beyond the end of the season and for that they have several alternatives. What Atlético Madrid want is to sell him for at least $80 million, a figure that the Catalan side cannot afford right now. Plan B is to negotiate another loan, which could include a buyout clause for 2025. And another option, though less likely, is for Atlético Madrid to agree to a player swap.
