Manchester United cannot find lasting solutions. They had had a lousy start to the season that cost them dearly in the Champions League, where they barely won one game out of the five they played and are almost eliminated from group A. And in the Premier League things did not start well either, but during the last few weeks they had improved their performances and had approached the top positions in the standings.

However, this Saturday they suffered a tough defeat against Newcastle at St. James' Park that again put them in a difficult situation. They are now 9 points behind leaders Arsenal, they could be far away from the Champions League qualification zone and even out of all European competitions, if Brighton & Hove Albion beat Chelsea.

The level shown by the team was disappointing and the fans targeted mainly one of the stars of the squad: Marcus Rashford. The English striker is nowhere near his best and more and more are calling for him to be left out of the starting lineup to make room for other players with better performances.

Coach Erik Ten Hag was asked about this at the post-match press conference and said: "I will talk to him and not the media. I know this issue's coming up and Marcus is investing a lot. We support him and he will return to his form. I repeat myself: he works hard and he's investing a lot, he will get back, he will recover and he gets all our support. I don't go into individual performances."

It's not the only problem they have

Another Manchester United striker was heavily criticized on Saturday: Anthony Martial. He did not have a good performance and even starred in an unusual situation, when he started arguing with Ten Hag during the match. The coach ended up waving his arms in frustration at the French player, who also responded with gestures.
