"I will not do a Mikel Arteta comment", Guardiola's mockery of Arsenal coach

Pep Guardiola is considered by many to be the best coach in the world. His success with Barcelona between 2008 and 2012 earned him the respect and admiration of the press and fans around the world. He then had an experience at Bayern Munich and since 2016 he has been working at Manchester City, whom he managed to turn into the best team in England and, since last season, also in Europe.

He is also known for his high demands on the squad's players, as well as on his assistants and staff members. The results he has obtained with all the clubs he has coached prove him right in terms of his methods. However, some are not fans of certain attitudes that the Spanish coach has.

One person who knows him very well is Mikel Arteta. The former Spanish midfielder was part of Guardiola's coaching staff for a few years after his retirement as a player and before he started his solo coaching career. Since 2020 he has been Arsenal's manager and has managed to turn The Gunners into one of Manchester City's main rivals. In fact, this season they beat them in the Community Shield and won the title.

This Sunday Pep shocked everyone by mocking his former assistant during an interview after the match against Tottenham. The coach was asked about referee Simon Hooper's decisions and first wanted to avoid answering, saying: "Next question". Then he smiled and added: "I will not do a Mikel Arteta comment".

What did he mean?

Pep Guardiola made that joke recalling what happened in November, when Mikel Arteta harshly criticized the referee and the VAR after a defeat against Newcastle in the Premier League. At the time, the Arsenal coach said: "It's embarrassing. It's a disgrace. That's what it is, a disgrace."
