The defender returned to the Spanish club after 18 years.

This Sunday Sevilla beat Las Palmas 1-0 at the Ramón Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium with a goal by Dodi Lukebakio after 26 minutes of the second half and got their first victory in the 2023/24 La Liga season. The three points were much needed, as the Spanish side had lost their first 3 games in the tournament and were last in the standings.

The match was also special for another reason: Sergio Ramos was part of the starting lineup and played all 90 minutes in Sevilla. In this way, he made official his return to the team after 18 years, since his departure to Real Madrid in the summer of 2005.

After the match, the defender gave an interview in which he showed his excitement and assured that he had fulfilled his dream of returning to the club where he began his career almost two decades ago: "It has been very exciting to be reunited with my people, my home, my fans... it is unique. You can't describe it in words. I can now die in peace seeing my people, as I told my parents".

On the team's performance and the victory they achieved against Las Palmas, he said: "I am happy, especially for the result, after a difficult start for the team. Taking advantage of the push from the fans, the team has done things well. We pressed high and created a lot of chances, I think 26. Maybe we could have increased that gap on the scoreboard".

There is still room for improvement

Sergio Ramos played the whole match and showed an acceptable level, helping the team not to concede goals for the first time this season. About his performance, he expressed: "These are the first minutes I've played after three months. The dynamic of the match requires playing and playing. I haven't felt incredible, but I'm feeling pretty good". And lastly, he explained what coach José Luis Mendilibar asked of him: "To be calm, to perform at the best level and gradually find the best form possible".
