Carlo Ancelotti's team needs a win to become La Liga leaders.

Real Madrid have an ideal opportunity this Sunday. They will face Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium knowing that a win will be enough for them to be leaders of the La Liga standings again. They are now in second place with 39 points, but if they win they will reach 42 and overtake Girona, who have 41. Michel's team will only play against Alaves on Monday, so Los Merengues depend on themselves to be leaders for at least 24 hours.

They also have the advantage of knowing that Atlético Madrid lost 2-0 against Athletic Bilbao, while Barcelona drew 1-1 against Valencia. This means that the teams that were closest to them in the standings could not win.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti knows that this Sunday's match is key to the goal of competing for the La Liga title and that is why he decided that most of the squad's stars will be part of the starting lineup, despite the fact that some of them played last Tuesday in Germany against Union Berlin, for the Champions League group stage.

Real Madrid's XI will be: Andriy Lunin; Lucas Vazquez, Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy; Federico Valverde, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Jude Bellingham; Brahim Diaz, Rodrygo. In addition, the substitutes will be Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mario de Luis, Fran Garcia, Vinicius Augusto, Nacho, Dani Ceballos, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Nicolás Paz and Joselu.

They also need to win

Villarreal have not had a good start to the season in La Liga. At the moment they are 14th in the standings with 16 points, far away from the qualification zone for international tournaments (11 points) and dangerously close to the relegation zone (3 points). That's why they need to get a win this Sunday to improve their situation in the tournament. Coach Marcelino Garcia Toral chose this XI: Filip Jorgensen; Adria Altimira, Raul Albiol, Aissa Mandi, Alfonso Pedraza; Ilias Akhomach, Etienne Capoue, Daniel Parejo, Alex Baena, Gerard Moreno, Jose Luis Morales.
