The defender believes he will have few opportunities and is considering leaving.

Manchester City lost some important players this summer. Despite having won the treble last season, i.e. the three most important titles (Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League), several decided to continue their careers at other clubs. Ilkay Gundogan rejected contract renewal offers and left as a free agent for Barcelona, while Riyad Mahrez accepted Al-Ahli's multi-million offer.

And others could follow suit. Kyle Walker is analyzing a bid from Bayern Munich and Bernardo Silva has intentions of going to Barcelona. However, Pep Guardiola considers them key players for the team and has asked the chiefs to make every effort to prevent them from leaving.

But there is one player who could leave and perhaps the coach is not too worried: Aymeric Laporte. The Spanish center-back has been with Manchester City for 6 seasons, but in recent times he has lost his place in the team. In fact, in the 2022/23 season he barely played 12 games, as Guardiola preferred John Stones, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji.

Now, with the arrival of Josko Gvardiol, the most expensive defender of all time, Laporte will have even less chances. According to Sport newspaper, this has led the player to start considering his exit during this transfer window, something that the club also thinks is appropriate, as they expect to receive money for him.

A possible destination

In case of leaving the Citizens, Aymeric Laporte could return to Athletic Bilbao. There he played 222 games in 6 seasons, between 2012 and 2018, and showed a great performance, which allowed him to reach the Spain National Team. Now, the Spanish side need to sign a defender to replace Iñigo Martínez, who left for Barcelona. That is why they have targeted Laporte, who left a great memory at the club.
