The Spanish coach got bad news after winning the most important title in Europe.

Manchester City had a perfect season in 2022/23. Under the guidance of Josep Guardiola, they won their first Champions League after defeating Inter in the final in Istanbul. They were also crowned champions of the English Premier League and beat rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup.

All was joy for the Citizens, but after the celebrations the bad news started to arrive. First, it was Ilkay Gündoğan, captain and key player of the squad, who ended his contract with the English team this summer and decided to leave on a free transfer to Barcelona, leaving a gap difficult to fill for the coach.

And now is leaving Manchester City one of Guardiola's main collaborators for the last 7 years. He is Rodolfo Borell, who will follow Lionel Messi's footsteps and move to Major League Soccer, where he will be the sporting director of Austin FC in the state of Texas.

He wastes no time

Pep Guardiola reacted quickly to the bad news and has already secured the signing of his first reinforcement for the 2023/24 season. It is Mateo Kovacic, the Croatian midfielder who played for Real Madrid and in recent seasons was a key player for Chelsea, where he won the Champions League in 2019.
