The Portuguese striker was the first to join the Pro League.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be remembered for decades for several reasons. Chief among them is his talent and hard work, which allowed him to become one of the best strikers of all time. In fact, no one in the history of soccer has scored more goals than him, 864, and he still has time and energy to keep increasing that number.

But he will also be remembered for changing the map of world soccer. When he accepted Al-Nassr's multi-million dollar offer in December 2022, everything changed. He was the first star to leave Europe while still in his prime to try his luck in a hitherto unknown league. And many quickly followed suit.

Other top players such as Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kanté, Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Neymar Junior, Yassine Bounou, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Aymeric Laporte have since joined the ranks. Saudi clubs spent $975 million on signings last summer, but are still not satisfied and will go for more.

"Only players of the highest level will be sought," said Michael Emenalo, director of the Pro League. This means they will try to sign another stars next year. Then he added: "Any additional improvements we need to make for any club, with time available and preparation, we believe will be top-level additions."

Who are the players targeted?

One of the stars who has a good chance of joining the Saudi Arabian league is Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool winger already received offers last summer, but decided to stay in England. However, they will be back for him in the near future. Other Premier League players who could follow that path are Bruno Fernandes, Richarlison and Heung-Min Son. And in Spain they are not safe either: Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Barcelona stars, were also targeted.
