The Polish striker and the Argentine star do not have a great relationship with each other.

Robert Lewandowski is one of Barcelona's biggest stars. His goals were key to Los Blaugranas winning the La Liga title last season and now, despite suffering an ankle injury that prevented him from playing for several weeks, he remains an irreplaceable player for coach Xavi Hernandez.

The Polish striker joined the club in the summer of 2022. This means he was not a teammate of Lionel Messi, who had left for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. The relationship between the two has not been good lately. It all started in 2021, when Leo won the Ballon d'Or and in his speech he said that Robert deserved to receive recognition also for his performances during 2020, a year in which the award was not given because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A few weeks later, Lewandowski had less complimentary words for Messi. He said that the Argentine player did not even vote for him for that year's awards, while in his speech he praised him. That evidently did not please the PSG player, and that was clear at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, where the two faced each other in the Argentina vs Poland match. There they also had a little quarrel, but it was never clear what they said to each other.

In an interview with Bild, Robert revealed details of that situation: "We talked a bit, it was fun. I told Messi that he was playing more defensively than usual, but sometimes that's what the team needs. I don't want to say what we talked about, but it was a nice chat. I think this kind of thing shouldn't be explained because it's private, but it was very nice."

Now he is very complimentary

Since that moment, Lewandowski has been much kinder whenever he talks about Messi. On Leo and Argentina's success at the World Cup, he said, "He has achieved everything in soccer, he is the best footballer in the world. And now he enjoys it, I can imagine what it means for him and for the country. And how he has played! The whole world has seen it. It's very difficult to play against him. He is the champion in a very well-deserved way".
