The sporting director of the Catalan club, Deco, was honest about what they will do.

This summer Barcelona had problems to sign players. The financial fair-play rules and the economic imbalances of recent years made the task difficult for president Joan Laporta and coach Xavi Hernandez. The latter called for the arrival of several top players to help improve the team to compete with the other giants of Europe, but it was not easy.

The club's chiefs had to be ingenious to fulfill the manager's wishes and sign some free agents, such as Ilkay Gundogan and Iñigo Martinez, and others on a one-year loan. That is the case of Joao Cancelo, who arrived from Manchester City, and Joao Felix, who was loaned by Atlético Madrid.

The Portuguese forward had not performed well with Los Colchoneros nor with Chelsea, where he was on loan during the first half of this year. But in Barcelona things changed and he seems to have found his place in the world. There he has played 14 games, scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists, becoming a key player in the team.

This has caused speculation about his future, since on July 1, 2024 he will have to return to Atlético Madrid. And the same goes for Joao Cancelo and Manchester City. But apparently Barcelona have other plans. In an interview with RAC1, sporting director Deco was consulted on this issue and replied: "We are still in November, it's early. but of course we are already thinking about it. We see how the season goes. There is no doubt that we want to count on them next season, because they are valid for the squad. we are happy with their performance".

He is satisfied with Felix

On the forward's performance, Deco said: "Joao Felix is playing in his position, he is a playmaker who goes inside, who makes combinations, but since he arrived he has had to play a lot. He has been spectacular in some moments and not so good in other matches, which is normal".
