Barcelona's tough decision: they must choose one of these two stars for next year

The Catalan side have to think carefully about what they will do with them.

Barcelona have been facing serious financial problems for years that prevent them from having the star-studded squads that were common less than a decade ago. Now it seems impossible to have a squad with Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, among others. Much less can one imagine buying players like Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembélé for figures higher than $100 million.

In fact, in the last transfer window they hardly spent any money at all. Ilkay Gundogan and Iñigo Martinez arrived as free agents, while Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo were signed on a one-year loan. The only player they bought was Oriol Romeu, for whom they paid Girona $4 million.

The problems with financial fair-play are not over and that will affect the club in the upcoming January transfer window. According to Sport newspaper, the chiefs know that they will not be able to add players in the winter, as they could have problems registering them. Therefore, they will have to choose between resolving the situation of two stars: Gavi or Vitor Roque.

The Spanish midfielder was irregularly registered this summer and was enabled to play thanks to a legal action. While they have not had any problems with this so far, things could change at any moment and Xavi could lose one of his best players. The Brazilian striker has already been bought by Barcelona for $40 million, but he is still with Athletico Paranaense and for now it is not clear if they will be able to register him.

What will they do with them?

The decision on whether to solve one or the other problem will depend on the team's performance in the coming months. Barcelona have few strikers and that was demonstrated after Robert Lewandowski's injury. That is why, for now, they will probably try to add Vitor Roque, trusting that there will be no bad news with Gavi.
