For several years Barcelona have been facing serious financial problems. This has prevented them from putting together top level teams as they were used to some time ago, when Pep Guardiola was the coach and in the squad there were stars like Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, Neymar and Luis Suarez.
However, little by little they have started to recover and the president Joan Laporta has assured in press conferences and interviews that the worst is over and that in a short time they will definitely leave the financial problems behind. This will allow them to once again have the money to sign top players and compete with the best teams in Europe.
That is why sporting director Deco and his assistants are following some stars who could join the squad in the coming seasons. And according to Sport, one of those targeted is Julian Alvarez. The Manchester City striker has had a great start to the season in the Premier League and Champions League, earning a place in the starting lineup alongside Erling Haaland and scoring important goals. In addition, since the Qatar 2022 World Cup, his participation in the Argentina National Team alongside Lionel Messi has become increasingly important.
Alvarez renewed his contract with the Citizens until June 30, 2028 and according to Transfermarkt, his value is almost $85 million. This is an unattainable figure for Barcelona, but there is an important detail: the exit clause he has on the English side is much lower, $50 million. So perhaps in the near future Los Cules can make an offer for him.
Although Robert Lewandowski is undisputed at Barcelona, he is 35 years old and the end of his professional career is getting closer and closer. That is why the chiefs have signed Vitor Roque, who will surely join the squad in 2024. And they will continue to look for other young strikers to replace the Polish forward in the future.
