Bad news for Barcelona, Xavi's favorite player will stay in Premier League

The Spanish coach will have to look for other solutions for his team.

The Spanish coach will have to look for other solutions for his team.

This summer has not been easy for Barcelona. The serious financial problems they have been facing for years have complicated the formation of the squad Xavi Hernandez wanted for the 2023/24 season and, with 4 days left until the transfer window closes, they still have several unresolved problems.

They have not yet been able to register two squad players, Iñaki Peña and Iñigo Martínez. In fact, the latter has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave on loan before Friday if his situation is not resolved. And that's not all, as not all the signings the manager wanted have arrived either. Joao Cancelo already has an agreement with Los Culés and Manchester City, his parent club, agreed to loan him out, but the issues related to financial fair play have not yet been resolved and there is less and less time left to do so.

In this context, Xavi Hernandez received another piece of bad news on Tuesday. One of the players for whom he had insisted the most this summer to join the team, will not arrive at Barcelona. It is Giovani Lo Celso, the 27-year-old creative midfielder that shines in the Argentina National Team alongside Lionel Messi.

Lo Celso had returned to Tottenham this summer after his loan spell at Villarreal. Initially the idea of Spurs was to negotiate again, either a sale or a new loan, and there were several clubs interested, such as Barcelona and Napoli. However, these possibilities did not prosper and the coach of the English side, Ange Postecoglou, has him in mind for his team. This was confirmed by journalist Gaston Edul, who assured that the Argentine player will stay to play in the Premier League 2023/24.

Will someone else arrive?

With the signing of Lo Celso ruled out, Barcelona may now try to negotiate for Joao Felix. The Portuguese forward has not played a single minute for Atlético Madrid this season and Joan Laporta believes he would be an important signing for the Catalan side.
