The Citizens made a big investment for the striker and now they want to do the same.

In the summer of 2022 Manchester City bought Julian Alvarez. The striker was the great star of River Plate, had been the scorer of the Argentine league and had even been part of the Argentina National Team that won the Copa America in Brazil 2021. That is why, when he was only 22 years old, he arrived in England and earned a place with the Citizens, despite playing in the same position as Erling Haaland.

In his first season he was almost always a substitute, but he still had a great performance in his 49 games, with 17 goals and 5 assists. The World Cup he won with the Argentina National Team in Qatar 2022 made him a star, so at the beginning of this season Pep Guardiola has given him more prominence, including him in the starting lineup in the first 4 Premier League games.

The good results that gave the signing of Julian Alvarez have made Manchester City now want to do the same with another young Argentine: Valentin Barco. The Boca Juniors (River Plate's rivals) player is 19 years old and is already considered one of the best players in the Argentine league. His talent has surprised fans, while his versatility allows him to occupy different positions (left-back, wide midfielder or winger).

This attracted the interest of The Citizens. According to TyC Sports, this week they will send representatives to Buenos Aires to negotiate with Boca chiefs and reach an agreement. However, the Argentine club intend to keep the player at least until December, as they are playing the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores and do not want to lose him right now.

How much is he worth?

A few weeks ago Boca Juniors rejected a $10 million bid from Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Valentin Barco. So, if Manchester City want to take him, they will have to offer more money for him.
