The Citizens need a win to remain Premier League leaders.

This week Manchester City lost their first game in the 2023/24 season. It was against Newcastle at St. James Park, and it meant the elimination of The Citienzs from the Carabao Cup. Pep Guardiola decided to change most of the squad for that game, as he felt it was best to rest the stars and get them fit to face Wolverhampton this Saturday at Molineux Stadium.

The coach believes that the Premier League and Champions League are more important tournaments than the Carabao Cup and therefore prioritized the game against Wolves and the game against RB Leipzig in Germany on Wednesday. Manchester City need a victory that will allow them to remain at the top of the English league standings, no matter what happens in the other matches.

This Saturday, most of the stars who did not play against Newcastle, such as Ederson, Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker and Erling Haaland, will return to the starting lineup.

The Citizens XI will be: Ederson; Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Aké; Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic, Phil Foden; Julian Alvarez, Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland. In addition, the substitutes will be Scott Carson, Stefan Ortega, Rico Lewis, Josko Gvardiol, Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish, Sergio Gomez and Oscar Bobb.

They will have a difficult challenge

Wolverhampton did not have a good start to the season. In Premier League they barely won one of their six games, against Everton in Liverpool, drew against Luton Town and lost the other four. As a result, they are in 16th place in the standings with only 4 points. In addition, they were eliminated from the Carabao Cup after losing 3-2 against Ipswich Town. For this Saturday's match against Manchester City, coach Gary O'Neil chose this XI: Jose Sa; Craig Dawson, Max Kilman, Toti; Nelson Semedo, Mario Lemina, Gomes, Rayan Ait Nouri; Pedro Neto, Matheus Cunha, Hwang Hee-Chan.
