The coach was honest at the press conference and acknowledged that he was upset.

Real Madrid achieved this Friday a new victory in La Liga 2023/24, this time against Celta in Vigo. It is the third in as many games, which allows them to have a perfect start to the season. In addition, the team's good performance gives the coach peace of mind and gives the fans hope that this will be a great year.

However, not everything went well. When 22 minutes into the second half and the match was still 0-0, referee Isidro Díaz de Mera Escuderos awarded a penalty to Los Merengues for a foul by goalkeeper Iván Villar on Rodrygo inside the area. The Spanish side had a chance to score the opener in a match that until that moment had been very complicated.

The forward took the ball and took charge of the shot, with a strong shot to the right of the goalkeeper. But Villar guessed the Brazilian player's intention and rejected the ball with his left hand. A few minutes later Jude Bellingham netted the 1-0 with a header and allowed his team to win the match, but this was not enough to calm Carlo Ancelotti's anger.

The coach spoke at a press conference after the match and, when asked about the penalty, said: "There is no freedom when it comes to taking penalties. I am angry. The penalty was for Modric, I don't know what happened". Then it became known that Ancelotti gave the order to Federico Valverde to communicate it to his teammates and Modric took over to finish off, but the message did not arrive in time and Rodrygo took the ball.

Not the first time it has happened

Since the departure of Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia, Real Madrid seem to have a problem with penalties. This situation with Rodrygo in Friday's game against Celta was the second in a few days. During the preseason, Vinicius also missed a penalty, against Barcelona in the United States.
