The club president needs to solve this problem or the consequences will be serious.

Xavi Hernandez must be worried. Although Barcelona had a good start to the 2023/24 La Liga season, with a draw against Getafe and victories against Cadiz and Villarreal, there are certain issues that have not been resolved yet and there is less and less time left to do so. The manager requested the signing of a right-back and this Monday Joao Cancelo will arrive in Catalonia, after Manchester City finally agreed to loan him out.

But only with the Portuguese defender will not be enough. On September 1 at 23:59 the transfer window will close in Europe's top leagues and the Spanish side still have a lot to do. Xavi wants an attacking midfielder and a forward, in addition to needing to register two players who are already in the squad but are not yet eligible to play: Iñaki Peña and Iñigo Martínez.

The latter arrived this summer as one of Barcelona's star signings, but the club's serious economic problems and financial fair play rules have prevented them from registering him for now. Faced with this situation, the center-back could make a drastic decision.

According to Sport newspaper, the contract between Martinez and Barcelona has an escape clause that allows the player to leave on loan in case the side fails to register him before the close of the transfer window. This means that if the defender believes that Joan Laporta will not be able to solve the problem in time, he can activate the clause and leave for another club before September 2.

Xavi is worried

If Iñigo Martínez's situation remains unresolved and the player leaves, the manager will have a serious problem. This summer he requested the signing of the former Athletic Bilbao defender because he felt he needed to strengthen the team in that sector of the field.
