The goalkeeper is recovering and told what his goal for the future is.

On Sunday, May 28, 2023 Sergio Rico made headlines around the world for a serious accident he suffered while enjoying his vacation. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper had finished the season in France and was in Huelva, southern Spain, with his family. There, he was hit by a horse and was knocked unconscious and had to be rushed to a hospital.

There it was confirmed that he suffered a cranioencephalic traumatism and was in coma for several days. He gradually recovered and, after four months in hospital, he finally received the doctors' permission to return home on August 18.

Now, while he continues his recovery in Seville, he received a visit from the club's owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and gave an interview to PSG's official media, where he said: "The recovery process is going quite well. Although I am not yet medically cleared, they decided to send us home and do the first part of the recovery at home. I'm happy to be here with my family, with Alba and with my friends. I feel better and stronger every day”.

About the first moments after waking up from the coma, he said: "I had no memory problems, I remembered all my relatives, Alba, my friends... so the first thought was if I could play soccer. And that's the first thing I asked the doctor. It's unfeasible for me to think about anything other than soccer, my whole life has been about that".

His future goal

Sergio Rico has a dream and it is to return to play soccer: "On the 22nd I have a new test to see how the aneurysm continues and to see if the doctor gives me more freedom to do some sport, to be able to tone my body and to be able to return to Paris. My goal is to return this year to be with the team before the end of the season”.
