Edson Álvarez has fitted in perfectly for West Ham on and off the pitch. The Mexican has earned the affection of his teammates who have already given him a new nickname.

Edson stopped being El Machín in the Hammers locker room to be called Eddy, as confirmed by the Mexican midfielder himself in an interview. Everyone calls me Eddy, I don't know, I think they think he is short for Edson, shared the Mexican after West Ham's great comeback against Tottenham 1-2 last Thursday on Matchday 15 of the Premier League.

Alvarez doesn't dislike his new nickname, it doesn't bother him, I like being called that, the whole locker room calls me that way, he added. Upon his arrival at West Ham from Ajax for 38 millions, Edson Alvarez took over as a starter in David Moyes' team and has played 18 games this season.

El Machín or Eddy, will face his compatriot Raúl Jiménez this Sunday, who has just scored a spectacular double with Fulham against Nottingham Forest. Matchday 16 of the Premier League had an attraction for the Mexican fans, as it faced West Ham and Fulham, which meant a duel between Raúl Jiménez and Edson Álvarez, but the midfielder could not be in the match.

In a duel with a Mexican flavor, Craven Cottage was the setting for the engagement of mid-table clubs in English football that were looking to move up the standings heading into the middle of the season. In the Fulham team, Jiménez has tried to take center stage and after his double last day he scored a new goal that allows him to continue as a starter, while Edson is almost a fundamental piece of the Hammers team.

Why didn't Edson Álvarez play Fulham vs Wests Ham?

Edson Álvarez was left out of the match between West Ham and Fulham in the Premier League, a situation that surprised the team's fans, as well as the Mexican fans who were waiting to see the Aztec duel. El Machín became absent from the Hammers at the last minute of the duel in London due to an illness that prevented him from being taken into account, which represented a complicated scenario for his team.
