Xavi Hernández will not be able to sign for Barça the replacement for Gavi that he had chosen at Manchester United

Barça still hasn't raised its head and has now gone three consecutive games without winning, but in this latest setback, the draw at Mestalla (1-1), the Blaugrana team played a better game than in their two previous defeats. Be that as it may, the team continues to need players to make a difference, especially up front, where the team never tires of failing and missing chances.

Be that as it may, the middle of the field is still fair now that Gavi is gone. The Andalusian's aggressiveness and his omnipresence will be greatly missed, but FC Barcelona has no other option but to turn the page and that is what the technical office was working on in recent weeks. In this sense, one of the footballers who offered himself to the club and who Xavi Hernández approved as reinforcement was Donny van de Beek, a midfielder who, according to Fabrizio Romano, was going to leave Manchester United safely during the January market and who would have reinforced Barça's game to a great extent.

Míchel's Girona was also following in the footsteps of the former Ajax player in order to reinforce its midfield for the winter market, but, as the aforementioned journalist has already assured, Van de Beek has already chosen Eintracht Frankfurt. Thus, the Dutchman will play on loan until the end of the season in the Bundesliga and the agreement includes a non-obligatory purchase clause of 15 million euros.

In this way, United breaks off talks with a Barça team that was frankly interested in hiring the 26-year-old player and, at the same time, Girona also forgets about a player who, due to his style of play, would have fit perfectly in the middle of the field.

Van de Beek seeks a springboard for his career

Although the player seemed to fit like a glove in Catalunya, he has finally chosen an Eintracht where, at least, he will not have the pressure that he would have had in Girona or Barça. In the first, because in view of his level during the current season, he should already have the objective of qualifying for the Champions League. And in the case of Barça, not only would they have to fight for European positions, but the League itself, the Copa del Rey, Super Cup and the Champions League are mandatory aspirations for a team like Xavi's.
