Liverpool are the only team in England still competing in four different tournaments this season. And in all of them they have concrete chances to be champions. They are the leaders of the Premier League, with a short but valuable advantage over Arsenal and Manchester City, while in the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League they are in the round of 16 and are favorites to win the title.
Their first celebration could be this Sunday, when they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final. It is the third most important tournament in England, but they still want to be champions. However, it will not be an easy mission, as for the Blues it is the most important goal of this season and coach Mauricio Pochettino will do whatever it takes to succeed. The London side are the ones who spent the most money in the summer transfer window and that hasn't shown on the field, so they need to win.
But Chelsea will not be the only concern for Klopp. He will have to deal with a serious problem: the large number of injured players who will not be able to be in Sunday's final. He had already known for several days that some of them would not be fit for the game, such as goalkeeper Alisson Becker, right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
The problem is that after the game against Brentford last weekend, in which they won 4-1, two more players were added to that list. "Diogo Jota's knee issue, ruled out. With him, it will take more than a month," the German manager confirmed during Tuesday's press conference. And then he added: "Curtis with a bone ligament issue, ruled out". That's why he will have to look for options to make up for these unexpected departures.
The injury crisis has not only affected Liverpool. Their opponents in the Carabao Cup final will also have to deal with the absence of key players, such as defenders Reece Jones and Benoit Badiashile, as well as midfielder Romeo Lavia. In addition, Thiago Silva has a muscular problem and it is not certain that he will be able to play.
