The first game of 2024 in the Premier League will be this Monday's match between Liverpool and Newcastle at Anfield Road. Matchday 20 of the tournament started on Saturday with several matches, such as Aston Villa's 3-2 win over Burnley that allowed The Villans to catch The Reds at the top of the standings, and Manchester City's 2-0 win over Sheffield United. The Citizens, with the same number of games as Liverpool, have two points less.

With this scenario, Jurgen Klopp's team have an ideal opportunity. They know that if they get a win this Monday, they will take three points ahead of Aston Villa and five ahead of Manchester City. This could be key for the future of the tournament, considering that in the last few weeks the teams that reached the top of the standings could not hold on for long.

But it will not be an easy mission, as Newcastle have proven to be a tough team. In fact, with 29 points, they are close to the qualification zone for international tournaments, and with a victory they will overtake Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp will not be able to count on his two usual left-backs, Andrew Robertson and Konstantinos Tisimikas, both injured. That is why Joseph Gomez will play in their place. The good news is that Alexis MacAllister recovered from his knee injury and will be on the bench. Liverpool's starting lineup will be: Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil Van Dijk, Joseph Gomez; Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones; Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz. In addition, substitutes will be Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Conor Bradley, Alexis MacAllister, Ryan Gravenberch, Harvey Elliott, James McConnell, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo.

This will be the Magpies' XI

Coach Eddie Howe knows that for Newcastle it is also a key match. That is why he will include his best players in the starting lineup: Martin Dubravka; Valentino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn; Lewis Miley, Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff; Joelinton, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon.
