The arrival of the new year has caused rumors about possible signings to flood social media, newspapers and TV shows. This is due to two reasons: on the one hand, because during the month of January the transfer window will be open and clubs will be able to sign some players to face the second half of the season; on the other hand, because many stars will become free agents from July 1 and therefore are already able to negotiate with any club they want.
With this scenario, Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland have been at the center of much speculation. 'Kiki' has a contract with Paris Saint-Germain until June 30 and was targeted by clubs like Liverpool and Real Madrid. The Spanish side have been interested in him for years and will now have the opportunity to make him an offer. But in case negotiations fail, plan B will be Haaland.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez was asked about the possibility of adding one of these stars next summer and his answer was honest: "With the ones I have, I already have to deal with. Now we are not thinking about this kind of signings, we don't have a privileged economic situation".
And not only that, he also doubted that Los Blaugranas could sign another player besides Vitor Roque: In recent days it had been rumored that they would start negotiations for Girona's Aleix Garcia, but the manager clarified: "I like Aleix Garcia's profile, but I have not spoken to him or anyone else, we will see with the financial fair-play what we can do".
Xavi then assured that he is not thinking about signings, but about improving the level of the team and "competing in this league, which is complicated for us". Barcelona will face Las Palmas this Thursday and then make their debut in the Copa del Rey on January 7 against Barbastro, before traveling to Saudi Arabia to play the Spanish Super Cup.
