Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. are a duo that has showcased a great friendship in football and outside of a football pitch. The two are football legends and are admired by the people from their respective countries. Despite playing for Argentina and Brazil, respectively, the two show lots of kindness towards one another, but the two are very competitive, and in football, the aim is to win. That will be the same case this summer as Messi has the chance to break a record Neymar holds at the moment. And unfortunately for Neymar, he can't make the record he holds more difficult as he is injured and won't play in the Copa America with the Brazilian national team. Neymar is the player who has assisted the most goals in the history of national teams, with 59 assists. Messi currently has 55 assists with his national team, and he needs four to tie with Neymar and five to break the record. He already grabbed an assist in the Copa America opener a week ago.

Messi played in Argentina's first match for the Copa America USA 2024 against Canada last week. He didn't score in the 2-0 win against Canada, but he grabbed an assist for the second goal, which was scored by Lautaro Martinez. With that assist, Messi is the first player to have an assist in seven different Copa América tournaments.

Messi has gotten a lot of assists over the years with Argentina. He had a total of 18 assists before the game against Chile in Copa America across seven of those tournaments in his career. In the World Cups he played, Messi provided a total of eight assists.

Messi's next game in Copa America

Messi and Argentina will play their last game of the group stage of Copa America tomorrow this weekend against Peru at the Hard Rock Stadium. The stadium is in Miami, which is a familiar environment for Messi since he plays for Inter Miami in the MLS. The stadium is expected to be filled with fans of Argentina as Miami has become the city of Messi.
