Soccer in the United States changed forever in July 2023, when Lionel Messi agreed to join Inter Miami. From that moment on, millions of fans around the world who had never paid attention to Major League Soccer before began to watch David Beckham's side's games to enjoy Leo's magic. This led to huge growth in the audience levels of match broadcasts, as well as in jersey and ticket sales.
And on the pitch, the Argentine forward disappointed no one. He, along with Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and coach Gerardo Martino, led the Herons to their first-ever Leagues Cup title. And they came very close to winning the US Open Cup as well, but Leo was injured before the final and the team could not recover from that blow.
In 2024 the demands will be even greater for the team, as they will compete not only in the MLS and Leagues Cup, but also in the CONCACAF Champions League, the most important tournament in North and Central America. That is why the coach and the chiefs are working to strengthen the squad and have already agreed on the arrival of one of Messi's best friends: Luis Suarez.
However, despite all the efforts the club is making, Lionel is still not 100% accustomed to his new life in Miami. This was revealed by one of his teammates, Nicolas Stefanelli, in an interview with Fox Sports. There, the Argentine midfielder told an incredible detail when asked if Messi spoke English: "I haven't heard it yet. We are waiting, haha".
Stefanelli also told how was the moment when the Inter Miami players knew that Lionel Messi was going to join the squad: "When the news came out, we didn't believe it. We said it was a lie. I said it wasn't going to happen. I didn't believe it until I greeted him. If I think about it, I still don't really believe it to this day".
