Griezmann suffered a heavy injury and Atlético Madrid may lose him for key game

The French forward is the main star of the team and his absence will be a huge problem.

Bad news for Simeone.

This Tuesday Atlético Madrid played the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Inter in Milan, and there things did not go well for them. The team's performance did not live up to the fans' expectations and they lost 1-0 to Marko Arnautovic's goal only 10 minutes before the final whistle. And that wasn't the only bad news.

Just two minutes before the hosts' goal, coach Diego Simeone had to make a forced change: Antoine Griezmann suffered a strong blow to his ankle and could not continue playing, so Angel Correa entered in his place. The pain that the French forward felt made his teammates and manager worry, considering the importance he has for the team due to his goals and assists.

Upon returning to Spain, he underwent the necessary medical studies to know his condition and this Wednesday Atlético Madrid shared a statement on social media informing: "Antoine Griezmann suffers a moderate ankle sprain, according to the report offered by the club's medical services after the French striker had to leave the field of play in the final stretch of the match that this Tuesday measured us against Inter. The red and white '7' is pending evolution".

This means that he will not be able to be in the next match that Los Colchoneros will play in La Liga, on Saturday against Almeria. But that is not the main concern they have. If Griezmann's recovery takes more than a week, he may not be able to be in a decisive game for them this season: the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinal. In the first match they lost 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao and on February 29 they will try to get a victory at the Nuevo San Mames stadium that will allow them to advance to the final.

They need Antoine

Griezmann became Atletico Madrid's all-time leading scorer a few weeks ago, surpassing legend Luis Aragones. And this season he has been key to getting Los Colchoneros to where they are today: between all competitions he has scored 18 goals and provided 7 assists in 36 games.
